In a surprising turn of events, migrants who were previously blocked from entering the US are now finding refuge in Panama. The Central American country, along with Costa Rica, is providing assistance to these migrants, offering them a safe and temporary place to stay.
Recently, 112 migrants from countries like Iran and China arrived in Panama, where they were issued temporary permits to stay for up to 90 days. These permits can be extended for an additional 60 days, giving the migrants time to settle and plan their next move.
The migrants will also undergo interviews with authorities and receive protection from Panama’s National Office for Refugee Assistance.
This development comes as the number of migrants attempting to cross the US-Mexico border continues to decline. In February, the US saw a record low in migrant apprehensions, with only 8,326 migrants caught.
As the migrant crisis evolves, Panama’s humanitarian efforts offer a beacon of hope for those seeking a safer and more stable future.”
