A dangerous wind warning has been issued for northwest and west-central Minnesota, and the northeast and southeast regions of North Dakota, including the Fargo and Grand Forks areas. The National Weather Service has warned of sustained winds of 35 to 40 mph and gusts reaching as high as 60 mph.

The strong winds are expected to make driving conditions hazardous, especially on highways. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution if they must travel to Winnipeg or Minnesota from Fargo or Grand Forks or other destinations in the affected areas.

“The winds will be strong enough to cause significant drifting and blowing snow, making it difficult to see and control your vehicle,” said a spokesperson for the North Dakota Department of Transportation. “We urge drivers to slow down, use low gear, and leave plenty of space between vehicles.”

In addition to reducing speed, drivers are also advised to:

  • Use headlights to increase visibility
  • Avoid sudden movements or lane changes
  • Keep a safe distance from other vehicles
  • Be aware of potential road closures or blockages

The wind warning is in effect until 6 pm today. Motorists are encouraged to check the latest road conditions and weather forecast before embarking on their journey.

Stay safe on the roads, and stay tuned for further updates.
