Singer Sean Kingston and his mother, Januice Turner, have been convicted of federal wire fraud charges after a five-day trial. The jury found them guilty on all counts, including one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud.
Kingston, whose real name is Kivien Paul Anderson, and his mother were accused of running a scheme to obtain luxury goods, including watches, cars, and audio equipment, by making false promises and using fake wire transfers. They allegedly used Kingston’s celebrity status to persuade vendors to deliver goods and services without receiving full payment.
Turner has been taken into custody, while Kingston will be under home detention with electronic monitoring until his sentencing on July 11. Each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
The duo still faces state-level charges in Florida, including accusations of running a defrauding scheme, committing grand theft, and using individuals’ personal information to obtain services.
They acquired three luxury watches through fake wire transfers totaling $765,000, a $160,000 car, and $40,000 worth of audio/video equipment.
Despite their federal conviction, the duo still faces state-level charges in Florida, including accusations of running a defrauding scheme, committing grand theft, and fraudulently using individuals’ personal information to obtain services.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office alleges that Kingston and Turner engaged in a systematic and ongoing course of conduct aimed at defrauding individuals and obtaining property through false pretenses, representations, or promises between October 2023 and March 2024.
Kingston and Turner’s legal troubles are far from over, with their state-level trial yet to come.
